Studies in Sinology
Academic research is an enterprise that requires long-term endeavor and years of efforts. For a scholar, it is a life-long career. There are only stages, without any destination. Without effort, one will be lagging behind. Founded in 1976, for the past three decades submissions have flooded into the Studies in Sinology, like brooks joining a river. With increasing submission, the scope of the annual edition had been enlarged, covering the areas of the four book depositories and modern and classical literature. The goals of the annual edition and the frequency of publication are elucidated as follow:

Academic study, on which the well-being of the people depends, is the accretion of history and culture. It is our mission to study prolific and profound academic thoughts and national culture. Elucidating the ideas, we can apply ancient wisdom in solving contemporary problems in order to promote the Chinese spirit and contribute the fruits of our research to the betterment of our country. It is our primary goal of founding this annual edition.
The representative scholars of each period are expected to be accomplished and influential. At the beginning, it starts with the advocacy of a few people, who enlighten others, broadening their horizons. In addition, they guide them in finding the right directions in their lives and setting up exemplar for proper conduct, resulting in initiating a trend of lofty ideas in the times. When the trend is magnified, it surges through the times and inspires people around the world. Being influential, this trend will be forever new. Our second goal is to invite people that dared to be innovative in academic research.
The development of academic research aims to maintain and promote the standard. It is essential for scholars in our country to synthesize traditional thoughts and modern trends in academic pursuits. It is essential for scholars to illuminate the unknown issues that are discussed occasionally to interpret the ideas that were not discovered by past academics. Reading extensively and pondering profoundly, we encourage researchers to find answers to controversial and problematic issues. Regarding research methods, we encourage scholars to synthesize the wisdom of past thinkers to initiate new directions in the disciplines. Exploring new paths, we can be innovative and creative in academic research to accomplish further. This is the third goal of the annual.
In the scope of Chinese studies, past Confucian scholars categorized academic research into four terrains: Confucian classics, history, philosophy, and literature, which can be approached from the explication of doctrines, rhetoric and form, and textual criticism. Regardless of the areas of studies, the major goal of researchers has been practical purposes – contributing our studies to the advancement of culture and the betterment of people. In recent years, there has been significant influence from the West in Chinese studies. With frequent cultural exchange, the division of the fields of studies proliferates. There have been similar phenomena in the subdivision of Chinese studies. Regardless of the impact from the West, we should not forget our foundation. Nor should we ignore the progress of the global trends with the pretext that the legacy of Chinese culture has been momentous. Chinese studies have been the objects of our colleagues, whose findings are likely to be submitted to the Studies in Sinology, which it is titled likewise, because we only publish one issue per year.

Established in 1976, this journal is published annually. Since Volume 25, it has been changed into a bi-annual publication, published every March and September—spring issue and fall issue.
III.Honors:
The Studies in Sinology was ranked as a Class A Journal in the category of literature in the Evaluation of Humanistic Journals sponsored by NSC in 2011.
