| Abstract |
This study aims to explore the impact of Indian vyākarana thought on those in China, and applies both thought history and philosophically as the research framework. The earliest attentions to the Chinese vyākarana thought can be traced back in the Da-Shan-Da-I-Chang(大乘大義章)by Hui Yuan and Kumārajīva in eastern Jin Dynasty. Those two authors emphasized on the discussion of the meaning, terms, and subjects of vyākarana, and built up the initial ground for the following philosophers and their famous Buddhist tripiaka. By analyzing the difference of these vyākarana thought in different period of time, the base of Hui Yuan and Kumārajīva's viewpoints can be understood accordingly. This research tries to provide a primary understanding for the very beginning development of vyākarana thought in China, and a general picture of future Chinese vyākarana thought as the research contribution.
