| Abstract |
The manuscript of Chung-Hsuan Explanation of The Book of Changes, finalized by Chiao Hsun (1763-1820), now is stored in Fu Szu Nien Memorial Library. Contemporary scholars seldom cite excerpts from that book. The only two records are those collected by Professor Huang Shao Chi and me respectively: Collections of General Comments on the Book of Changes and Research on the Remained Writings of Chiao Hsun. Professor Huang questioned the authenticity of that book. He concluded, “It might be made by an unknown writer. Since that most of the works were missing for a long time, someone abuse the name of Chiao Hsun in order to seek publicity ”. However, according to my study, I argued that Chiao Hsun could possibly author that book, or otherwise by someone who was closely related to him. In this paper, I try to prove the possible connection of that book, based on the studies of The Book of Changes as made by Chiao Hsun. On the other hand, I analyze the explanation of four patterns of tri-grams remained in fragments of the manuscript: Chien (heaven), Kun (earth), Zun (difficulty), and Meng (immaturity). This paper is expected to be a reference to those studies made by scholars in the Ching Dynasty.
