Abstract Is human life meaningful ? Is the life of a human being valuable ? What is the significance of human life ? What are the reasons if people can not accomplish the significance of their lives ? Does a human being bear certain passion and responsibility towards his family and society when he accomplishes the significance of his life? Mencius maintains that a man will not do some things, then he is capable of doing great things. Hsun-Tzu advocates that a man should avoid despising all principles in his mind and only admiring things in the material world. It is worthy of congratulation if a man can keep himself from always having a full stomach and putting his mind to nothing. Furthermore, if a man can dwell in benevolence and behave in rightness, he will be capable of achieving the worthy part of his life. When a man expands the glory of his life, he will also be a man who can use his brilliant virtue to help others and let them also have brilliant virtue; who is benevolent towards the people and cherishes all species in the world; who will never abandon rightness in adversity, nor will he depart from the Way in success. All these issues mentioned above have been profoundly discussed by Confucius, Mencius and Hsun-Tzu. In this essay, I will have a close study of life according to the records of the Analects, Mencius, and Hsun-Tzu.
