| Abstract |
In this article, I review the attitude of Confucians toward “heresy”. While debating the righteousness versus heterodox, some of the Confucians were able to tolerate different opinions, some even contained the essence of strange doctrines, while others radically repelled. However, tradition of Confucianism has been challenged by Western civilization in modern age. Neo-Confucianism emerged in time. Therefore, it is critical for Neo-Confucians to keep abreast of time in various philosophies. There should be a new conception on so called heresy, neither to interfere with nor to deviate from the value system of traditional Confucianism.
