Synopsis: Image Management is a significant factor in modern style of poetry. For most of the modern poets, it is a great challenge to manage images in his/her poems. And from readers’point, it is also an "endurance test" to surpass those images and to feel the real meaning. An impatient reader would never be able to appreciate good pieces of works, especially when a poem is full of complicate images. However, for some patient readers, modern poetry may also be too obscure to understand even when they pay a lot efforts but eventually fail to accept it. These are not promising conditions for the development of modern poetry. "Rhapsody of a Female Basso" has won the highest award of "China Time Post Literary Prize 1994" in the category of modern style of poetry. Thus I choose it as a media to explore the reason why it is "so hard to understand". From such point I would discuss the subject of "image management". By analyzing a standard example, my conclusion is that a modern poet shall provide readers flexible space of imagination when he/she is tailoring poetic images.
