Abstract Zhu Xi and his students are both important subjects of investigation for researchers of Neo-Confucianism of the Song Dynasty. ‘Zhu Men Di Zi Shi Shi Nian Kao’, ‘Zhu Men Di Zi Shi Shi Nian Kao Xu’, and “Disciples of Zhu Zi” are must-reads for those who study the backgrounds of Zhu’s students. ‘Zhu Men Di Zi Shi Shi Nian Kao’ and ‘Zhu Men Di Zi Shi Shi Nian Kao Xu’ summarize the text of “Zhu Zi Yu Lei” and draws on other works to infer when some of the students studied under Zhu. “Disciples of Zhu Zi” provides an overview of the birthplaces and life events of around 400 students of Zhu, while repeatedly quoting Tanaka Kenji’s inferences about when those students studied under Zhu. However, Tanaka Kenji’s inferences have limitations, which the present study was aimed to address by referencing other works.
