Abstract SummaryThe philosophy of Chuang Tzu can be concluded by the concept of Hsiao Yao. What dose Hsiao Yao mean? There were lots of explanations. In this article,I will outline the concept of Hsiao Yao by Chuang Tzu,Hsiang Kuo and Chih Tun respectively, based on their elaboration on "non-egotism and inaction","following the nature" as well as "the connotation of outward appearance and emptiness". Further,I will discuss the relation among three of them. Based on such understanding,I try to answer the following two questions. First, does Hsiang Kuo's elaboration on Hsiao Yao really reflect Chuang Tzu's intentions? Second, can Chih Tun's interpretation of Hsiao Yao actually replace those comments from Hsiang Kuo? While interpreting the original text,I intend to explore the true meaning of Hsiao Yao. Although Chuang Tzu,Hsiang Kuo and Chih Tun had different aspects while elaborating the meaning of Hsiao Yao,they still had common concepts; that is, only can the sage enjoy the easy and carefree life when he have achieved the state of non-egotism.
