Abstract Synopsis: The subject of this thesis is intended to review the transformation and define of artistic spirit in Confuciansim after the ancient music became unadmired. 1.The feature of musical concept in Confuciansim; 2.The evolution and development of musical concept; 3.The transference of artistic media in Han Dynasty; 4.The perception of artistic spirit in Confuciansim and Daoism; 5.The transformation of artistic spirit in Confuciansim. It had been a prosperous age of metaphysics in the Six Dynasties (222-589A.D.). However, the musical concept in that age was still dominated by the Confucian cultivation of decorum and music. Thus I would reconsider in this thesis the artistic spirit of Confuciansim since the ancient music became unadmired, and explore if there was any transformation and decline in classical Confucian education which was focused on pupils’musicality. I would first state the features of musical concept in Confuciansim, then discuss the developmental trend of musical concept in both Han Dynasties and the six Dynasties. Based on historical systems and musical concept in ancient China, I would explore some phenomenon related to the transformation of musical media since music and poetry were divided into two different fields in the development of Chinese classical culture, from which to review the change of their artistic spirit.
