Abstract |
This paper focuses on Lao-Tzu’s(老莊) doctrine of “the Universe created by the Tao(道)” and Guo Xiang’s (郭象)theory of “Self Creation”(自生獨化). It also attempts to accommodate the two, in addition to analyzing the similarities and difference in their philosophical forms. It can be inferred from the analysis and discussion of the above-mentioned topic that the opinion of “Self Creation” held by Guo Xiang attributes the basis of generation and the source of value to everything in the universe, akin to the theory of “Self Creation”, which states that creation by the ‘Tao’ is voluntary and everything in the universe is naturally generated, by cutting off the casual relations of “the universe created by Tao”, mixing the difference between the subject and object, and transcending the creative relationship between the creator and created.
