Abstract In Song Dynasty, the intelligentsia often take interest in the writing of poetic theories. No matter in quanlity or quality, these narratives containing comments on poets or poetry are remarkable. The poetics including varius kinds of interpretations on poetry from the Zhou Dynasty to the Song Dynasty not only illuminate poetic essence, but also contribute to the establishment of poetic criterion. In the thesis, the writer classifies the "chanting nature" poetics in Song Shihua intofour parts: poetic mimesis, poetic impressionism, poetic imagism, and poetic metaphysics. Furthermore, he takes Ji Yuan poems for example to explicate four characteristics of "chanting nature" poetics presented above. Through the inter-penteration between "theories" and "texts," the writer epitomizes the "chanting nature" poetics in Song Shihua and provides readers with an access th the appreciation of "chanting nature" poems in the Song Dynasty. It also provides mutual proof of poetic theories and poetry. Thus we readers can understand the outline of the Song Dynasty poetic theory and help criticaiz and analyze them.
