Abstract |
The research is discussing about the sound change on words from Duan-Xi(端系)in the Lower Yangtze Mandarin. If the words from Duan-Xi with Xie-Kai-si(蟹開四)and Zhi-Kai-san(止開三)in middle Chinese, the words in some dialects today pronounce affricates. In other words, the alveolar stops (t- group) became affricates. Some places stops developed into dental affricates(ts- group),and some were Palatal affricates(t- group). It resulted from the friction on high vowel -i. The change rule is : ti >ti >tsi > ts or ti >ti > ti > ts.
