Abstract Liushi Xuxun (柳氏敘訓) by Liu Pi in late Tang Dynasty is the last written record of family law on clan culture in medieval China which has great significance in understanding household-running principles and value orientation of respected and influential clan in Tang dynasty. Yet the original book was lost in Ming dynasty, and failed to receive proper notice and research. This paper, with the assistance of abundant classical works in the Five Dynasties,Song and Yuan dynasties, tried to edit and restore the original work. The author collected many versions of this lost work, and analyze the narration and cultural value of the clan and its modal role during the social transition between Tang and Song dynasty according to the collection.
