Abstract If Yasui Sokken’s(安井息軒) Rongo Syusetsu 《論語集說》 published in the 5th year of Meiji (1872) was a comprehensive conclusion of the Analects《論語》studies in Edo period, and if Takezoe K?K? ‘s (竹添光鴻) Rongo Kaisen《論語會箋》published in the 9th year of Sh?wa (1934) was a transition to sinology in modern Japanese study of the Analects, then the 3rd edition of Yasui Kotar?’s安井小太郎)Rongo Kougi《論語講義》 published in the 10th year of Sh?wa (1935) was really a turning point in Japanese study of the Analects. Analyzing the research process, writing style, and commentary method of Yasui Kotar?’s Rongo Kougi, this study attempts to answer the following areas of inquiry: what new method in modern Japanese study of the Analects does this book point out? And what is the epoch-making significance of Rongo Kougi? And what kind of research tendency of Chinese studies in Japan does its new approach show? And what new subject of Chinese studies does that tendency lead to?
